Lawn Fawn Pop-Up Box Card

by Mona Gandecha

Hi friends! Today I’m excited to share a pop-up box card I created using the Lawn Fawn Critter Concert stamp set. For a long time, I’ve admired all the creative pop-up box cards I’ve seen from other cardmakers on Instagram. They always looked so fun and interactive, but also a little intimidating. This week I finally decided to give it a try and I’m so glad I did!

This was my very first attempt at making a pop-up box card, and I can say it won’t be my last. The Scalloped Box Card Pop-Up die made the construction surprisingly simple, and once I had the base together, the fun really started. I loved building up layers of grass, clouds, and little musical critters to create a mini 3D scene that feels like it comes to life as soon as the card is opened.

Building the Scene

For this design, I imagined a cheerful woodland concert. The fox is playing the french, the raccoon has the flute, the owl is playing a violin, and the little bird is leading with his baton. I added tiny music notes floating in the air to help tie the whole scene together. Using the Grassy Hillside Borders gave me places to place each critter at different depths inside the box, which really enhances the dimension. I also used soft patterned papers (Watercolor Wishes for the background sky and Spiffy Speckles for the grassy panels) to give the card texture.

Why Pop-Up Box Cards Are So Much Fun

What I love most about this style of card is how much joy it sparks, not only while creating it, but also when thinking about the recipient opening it. The card folds completely flat to fit into an envelope, but when it pops up, it becomes a little keepsake display piece. I can’t wait for the recipient to get it!

If you’ve never tried making a pop-up box card before, I really encourage you to give it a try. They may look complex, but once you break it down step by step, they’re very approachable. Plus, they open up endless design possibilities with the stamp sets and dies you already have in your collection. Check out Lawn Fawn’s video on how to put the basic structure together.
