Lawn Fawn Woodland Wonder Pop-Up Card

by Mona Gandecha

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing a Lawn Fawn Pop-Up card inspired by the latest Lawn Fawnatics Challenge – Woodland Wonder. As soon as I saw the theme, I knew I had to join in. I love Lawn Fawn’s woodland critters, and this challenge was the perfect excuse to create a playful 3D scene. I decided on a platform pop-up box card featuring a group of woodland animals throwing a little music concert to celebrate a birthday!

Supplies Used

One of my favorite things about Lawn Fawn is how easily their stamps and dies mix and match to build a scene. For this card, I pulled from quite a few sets:

    • Bird – 50 (yellow), 52 (bright yellow)
    • Cheeks, Nose, & Ears – 21 (light carmine)
    • Horns & Cymbals – 50 (yellow), 61 (light brown)
    • Tamborine – 64 (oatmeal), 73 (vanilla), 901 (gray tint)
    • Party Hats – 806 (pale violet), 201 (pink haze), 302 (haze blue)

Cardmaking Process

I started with a rough sketch of the layout to map where each critter would go. Once I had my plan, I stamped all the images onto Bristol Smooth paper with Versafine ink. I used coordinating dies to cut out the images and fussy cut the squirrel from Happy Hugs, as I don’t own the die for that set. Then, I colored everything with Zig pens. I haven’t used these in ages, and I had a lot of fun revisiting them!

Creating the Base

Next, I cut all the pieces for the platform pop-up (Platform Pop-Up, Platform Pop-Up Hill Side Wrap Around, and Platform Pop-Up Hill Side Inserts), and ink-blended the areas that would stay visible. I blended Antique Linen, Lucky Clover, and Pine Needles for the grassy look. For extra texture, I smooshed Pine Needles ink on my glass mat, added water, and flicked it onto the pieces with a paintbrush before setting them aside to dry.

Building the Tree House

Then, I cut out all the pieces for the tree house (Tree House). I blended the tree tops with the same greens as the grass, then used Antique Linen and Vintage Photo for the trunk, adding Walnut Stain along the edges for depth. I colored the window and door frame with Walnut Stain and blended Shaded Lilac over the door. To finish, I glued cardstock inked with Squeezed Lemonade behind the windows to create a warm, glowing light from inside.

Adding the Banner

For a festive touch, I created a curved banner using the Fishtail Banner Borders. I cut the pennants from patterned paper and stamped a few with the tiny music notes from Critter Concert. The mix of patterns and notes gave it a playful, celebratory vibe.

Putting it All Together

Now came my favorite step—assembly! I always love watching a sketch come to life, even if I move things around during the process. First, I attached the tree house onto the back of the platform pop up. Then I rearranged the images within the hills of the box card until everything felt balanced. Once I felt happy with the arrangement, I glued everything into place. To make the scene more playful, I perched a small bird (Heart Tree) on the banner and let a curious mouse (Fly High) peek out from the tree top.

To decorate the sides and front of the box, I added extra details such as die-cut music notes from the Little Music Notes set.

Since the card was already filled with critters, I had to get creative with the sentiment. I stamped “Happy Birthday” on the banner from Elephant Parade and tucked it neatly behind the squirrel, which worked perfectly.

Final Thoughts

This card took some time to put together, but I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I loved combining so many different sets to create a lively woodland concert, and it felt great to use my Zig pens again after such a long time. That’s one of the best parts of the Lawn Fawn challenges—they always inspire me to dig into my stash and get creative with supplies I may have forgotten about.

Do you have a favorite woodland critter to craft with? I’d love to hear about it in the comments. Thanks so much for stopping by, and happy crafting!
