Hello crafty friends! After a long break from blogging, I’m so happy to be back. Today, I’m showing you a set of DIY handmade gift tags I created using the Mama Elephant Up and Away stamp set.
Why I Love This Stamp Set
The Up and Away set has been in my collection for quite a while, and I’m so glad I finally pulled it out again. The sweet critters, balloons, and uplifting sentiments are perfect for making tags, cards, and other paper crafts. For this project, I wanted to make some general handmade tags I could use on any gift, and these images worked beautifully.
Coloring the Images
To keep the design bright and cheerful, I colored the umbrella and balloons with Copic markers in fun, vibrant shades. While the stamp set comes with three adorable critters, I chose to use the bunny and monkey for my tags. They pair so well with the colorful balloons! These are the Copic colors I used:
- Monkey: E55, E57, E59 (body); E50, E51, E53 (face); R20 (cheeks)
- Bunny: W3, W1, W0, W00, R00
- Blue: B04, B02, B00, B000
- Yellow: Y11, Y13, Y15
- Green: YG01, YG03
- Pink: RV13, RV14, RV17
Creating the Cloud Background
For the tag bases, I used the MFT Stitched Traditional Tag STAX Die-namics to cut out my tag shapes. Then, I created a soft cloud background by blending Distress ink in Salty Ocean over a cloud stencil. This little detail makes the critters and balloons pop against the sky-like background.
Finishing Touches
Once the backgrounds were ready, I stamped the sentiments at the bottom of each tag. I adhered the colored images with glue and tied colored twine through the top of each tag for a finished look. Simple, cute, and ready to add to a gift!
Final Thoughts
This project was the perfect way to ease back into crafting after a break. If you’re looking for a quick and fun way to use your stamps, making DIY gift tags is a great option. They’re small, easy to customize, and add such a personal touch to any present.
Thanks for stopping by! – Mona
