Hello again! Hope everyone had a nice weekend! Today I am sharing a card I made over the weekend using the winter owl stamp (ID-859) from AB studio. I just love this cute little owl dreaming away all nicely tucked in his warm blanket!
For this card, I stamped the image onto Bristol Smooth paper, cut it out with the Brother Scan-N-Cut, and used Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers to color it. When I saw this stamp, I knew that I wanted to place the sleeping owl into a bunch of clouds within a square window on an A2 size card.
To cut out a square window, I placed Lawn Fawn’s Outside In Stitched Square Stackables onto a heavyweight white cardstock which was 4.25″ x 5.5″ in size. I placed it more towards the top and made sure it was even on all three sides before cutting it out with my die-cutting machine. Next, I cut clouds from white card stock using Lawn Fawn’s Puffy Cloud Borders dies. These dies cut out several types of cloud borders and have nice stitching along the edge.
With all my pieces ready, I started thinking of the colors I wanted the clouds in the background of my window to be. I took a piece of white cardstock which was 4.25″ x 5.5″ in size and put it underneath the framed piece. I lightly marked the area of the window and removed the framed piece. Then I placed a cloud stencil over the marked area and blended Distress Oxide in Picked Raspberry and Worn Lipstick on top to create a layer of clouds. I also added Distress Oxide over the stitched cloud borders. On one I used Worn Lipstick and on another, I used Spun Sugar.
I arrange the stitched clouds within the window until I was happy with the placement, glued one of the cloud layers onto the square frame’s back, and cut off the excess. Then I added foam tape to the back of the square framed piece and positioned it over the opening to determine where the other cloud layer would go. I wanted to position the owl between the stitched clouds, so I played around with the arrangement until I was happy with the way it looked. I glued on the other cloud layer to the panel background and then attached the window piece. Finally, I finished the card by gluing the owl and sentiment handmade in word and printed from my laser printer to the card panel.
I really had a lot of fun making this card! I love making clean and simple cards and this owl is just the cutest! Hope you give it a try!
Thanks for stopping by! – Mona
