Today I thought I would share a simple card I recently made for my husband’s birthday using a homemade stencil, distress oxide inks, letter dies from Altenew, and vellum.
I started making this card by taping a stencil onto a piece of white cardstock. I used blending blushes to blend two different distress oxide ink colors over it. Then, I carefully removed the stencil and set it aside to dry.
While my background was drying, I used dies to cut out letters which spelled out happy birthday. I did this twice for each letter and glued them together so they would have dimension. Next, I trimmed down the background panel so it would be slightly smaller than an A2 size card base.
Then, I cut a piece of vellum and wrapped it around the center of the card. I started arranging the letters over the vellum until I was happy with the placement. At this point, I thought the white letters weren’t standing out as much as I wanted them to, so I colored them by patting some ink over each letter until they were covered. I carefully glued the letters over the vellum using a ruler to make sure they were straight as I was gluing them down. To finish the card, I added foam tape to the back of the card panel and attached it to the card base.
Stencils are a great way to add a simple background to a card. I like that I can use them with so many different colors which makes them very versatile! I can buy an SVG file and make them in my Cricut or purchase them at a pretty reasonable price. Hope this inspires you to try to make some simple stenciled backgrounds! Thanks for stopping by! – Mona
