Hello, friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Ours was quiet, which gave me the perfect chance to tidy up my craft room and make another holiday card.
For this project, I reached for images from Pretty Pink Posh. Lately, I’ve been challenging myself to use stamp sets I already own in new ways. As I flipped through my collection, I spotted a set I hadn’t touched in ages—Playful Puppies. I paired it with a few other Pretty Pink Posh sets to create a cheerful holiday scene on a slimline card.
Coloring the Images
I stamped the images onto Bristol Smooth paper and colored them with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens:
- Puppies: Oatmeal (64), Mustard (67), Warm Gray 2 (900), Mid Gray (96), Pink Haze (201)
- Hats, presents, and envelopes: Cobalt Blue (31), Light Blue (36), Light Green (41), Pale Green (45), Geranium Red (29), Violet (80), Lilac (83)
For extra shimmer, I used Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors—White Gold (906) for the dog bones and Bluish Gold (91) for some of the envelopes.
Cutting the Pieces
Usually, I use coordinating dies or my Brother Scan n Cut. However, this time I cut the images by hand so there wouldn’t be a border. Surprisingly, it went much faster than I expected!
Building the Card Base
Next, I cut a slimline panel with the Hello Bluebird Gallery Frame #5 die. For the outer scalloped frame, I chose light blue cardstock. For the window frame, I used white cardstock.
To make the background, I cut a slightly larger piece of white cardstock and marked the openings. Since I don’t own a slimline cloud stencil, I improvised! I used the Cloud Border die from the Mama Elephant Slimline Card Basics set, cut a border from white cardstock, and blended Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink over it. Once the background was ready, I layered on the scallop border, window frame, and then attached everything to a folded card base. I also cut out snowy hills from white cardstock using the same Mama Elephant die set.
Assembling the Scene
To finish the layout, I glued the snowy hills into each window and arranged the puppies and accessories on the card panel. After I was happy with the placement, I glued everything down, using foam tape on some pieces for added dimension. Finally, I stamped my sentiment, trimmed it out, and attached it to the rightmost window with foam tape.
Final Thoughts
I’m so glad I pulled out an older stamp set for this card. While I love new releases from my favorite stamp companies, I try to balance that excitement by reusing sets I already own. It’s always fun to come up with new ways to bring them to life!
